There are plenty of impressive businesses that call St. Louis home, but some make an especially bold statement with their workspaces that simply can’t be overlooked. From biotechnology companies to coworking spaces, we highlighted four of the most distinct offices in the Gateway City. What’s more, some of these workspaces were developed by some of St. Louis’ most talented architects and designers. Check them out below:
CannonDesign | 1100 Clark Ave, St. Louis, MO 63102
Located at the corner of Clark and 11th streets, CannonDesign made the 19,000-square-foot St. Louis Power House building its home after it stood vacant for almost 30 years. Constructed in 1928 and designated as a landmark by the National Historic Register, the Power House provided coal-fired steam heat to a dozen downtown buildings until 1980. The building’s exterior was in good shape when CannonDesign moved in, but it took a combination of creativity and craftsmanship to transform the building into the stunning space that it is today. Among CannonDesign’s additions were a 3,500-square-foot urban garden and a historically accurate replacement of windows in their original masonry openings.
Cofactor Genomics | 4044 Clayton Ave, St. Louis, MO 63110
Located at the entry of the Cortex District, this 11,000 square-foot space features an edgy, contemporary aesthetic that aligns with Cofactor’s mission and personality. The space consists of offices, wet labs, a sequencing lab and a hood room. Arcturis collaborated with several local artists and vendors to ensure that this space reflected the creative spirit of the surrounding neighborhood.
Covo | 401 Pine St, St. Louis, MO 63102
Since 1896, the Mississippi Valley Trust Company has proudly stood in the shadow of the St. Louis Arch at the corner of 4th and Pine. Once one of the city’s best-known financial institutions, the building went untouched for decades. But today it’s been transformed into a modern coworking space while retaining its old-fashioned charm. After a hard day’s work, the creators, innovators and thinkers who work at Covo often make their way to Trust, the chic cocktail bar located in the building’s beautifully restored main hall.
Lewis Rice | 600 Washington Ave. Suite 2500, St. Louis, MO 63101
Designer: Christner Inc.
Although Lewis Rice has satellite offices across Missouri, the law firm has been headquartered in Downtown St. Louis for over a century. In an effort to express its reputation as a regional leader, Lewis Rice consulted local architecture firm Christner Inc. to transform its office aesthetic. The result was a variety of modern developments that included more flexible working space and a stunning top-floor conference center which features state-of-the-art audiovisual technology.
