Dog-Friendly Downtown: Planning the Perfect Downtown Day for Your Pup

She’s your best friend. He’s your loyal companion. If your heart belongs to your dog, bring him or her along with you Downtown for a day designed perfectly for pups.

Fuel up for your Fido-filled day with a cup of coffee at a dog-friendly shop. Park Avenue Coffee (417 N. 10th St.) allows pets in the outdoor dining areas so you can sit with your pup while you finish your latte—or take your java to go and kick things off with a brisk stroll around Citygarden (801 Market St.), which is merely a five-minute walk away. Citygarden is also dog friendly, although pups must be kept out of the pool.

Looking to pamper your pup? Head to the outskirts of Downtown toward Lafayette Square to visit Four Muddy Paws (1711 Park Ave.), a dog wash and health-focused pet market. In addition to nutrient-packed food and and supplements, Four Muddy Paws also offers freshly baked treats and dog-friendly cakes. Keep an eye on Four Muddy Paws’ online calendar for special dog-friendly events like its In The Kitchen series.

Give your pet the gift he or she really wants: room to run with other pups! Take Rover to Downtown’s first dog park, Lucas Park Dog Park (St. Charles Street and 13th Street), for a fenced area perfect for off-leash fun. (Know before you go: A membership is required and applications can be easily submitted online.)

Does your dog have spots, or is that dirt from the day at the park? Get cleaned up before you head home with grooming services at Downtown Dogs (1720 Delmar Blvd.) This doggie daycare facility offers overnight lodging, pup playtime and a full menu of pooch-pampering services.
