While it’s freezing in St. Louis, an office in Downtown’s T-REX building has warm weather on the brain—it always does, actually. Summersalt, a young swimwear line founded by St. Louisan and swimwear veteran Lori Coulter, is headquartered in this innovative building. With a decade in the industry, Coulter and her business partner Reshma Chamberlin launched the line in 2017 with a focus on affordable, high-quality swimwear for life “beyond the lounge chair, from a slip-and-slide in the backyard to an adventure in Morocco.” We recently caught up with Coulter to find out more about the line, her Downtown office and the brand’s next steps.

Tell us about Summersalt. When did the line launch, and what products do you carry?

Summersalt—an investor-funded, direct-to-consumer swimwear and adventure brand that launched in May 2017—is focused on disrupting the traditional retail and wholesale industry, selling exclusively on the e-commerce site, The digital-first brand offers a $200 designer swimsuit for $95 and is the first to fully embrace the direct-to-consumer model as a swimwear category killer. Already sold in all 50 states, Summersalt received widespread coverage by influencers and press including Forbes, Fast Company, Refinery29, Today, Glamour, Elle, Allure, Marie Claire and more.

You’re headquartered in T-REX. Why did you select Downtown for your business?

We chose T-REX for the entrepreneurial ecosystem and energy that comes with working in proximity to other amazing startups. We love the conveniences of Downtown, the lunch scene, the people and the ease of transportation.

Where are the products designed and manufactured?

It was also important that we created a company that was committed to responsible commerce from day one, and we work with the best factories the U.S. and in China. All our swimwear is made from recycled materials, and we continue to streamline making our processes as eco-friendly as possible, every day.
